Disney Plus has finally launched in the United States — and in grand, drawn-out fashion. The debut came with a three-hour trailer explaining all the offerings and possibilities available to subscribers. However, not everything went as planned on launch day — and the Disney magic gave way to complaints and #DisneyPlusFail trending on Twitter.
Technical issues, including glitches and connection failures, were reported by users — most of them eager to watch The Mandalorian, an original series set in the Star Wars universe. Disney executives stated that extensive testing had been conducted given the high expectations surrounding the streaming service, yet the instabilities proved unavoidable.
"Demand exceeded our expectations," the company said in a statement. The marketing campaign surrounding the launch — worked on exhaustively for months — apparently worked a little too well. Disney's plans are to reach 90 million users worldwide within 5 years.
