Every year at the start of the year, Fast Company releases its ranking of the world's most innovative companies. The relevance of the Fast Company ranking stems from its scope and quality of analysis.
For this year's ranking, 410 companies from around the world were classified as innovative, across 35 industries. Of these, 50 organizations appear in the ranking of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World. The rest make up regional rankings.
Apple has fallen and is no longer the most innovative
In the 2018 ranking, Apple led as the world's most innovative company. This was due to its major product launches in 2017. Now, in 2019, the surprise is that the company dropped to 17th place due to its performance the previous year.
Meituan Dianping: the Chinese company takes the top spot
Meituan Dianping, which had not appeared in 2018, now holds the title of the world's most innovative company. It represents a growing trend in the Chinese and global market: that of "super apps." Learn more about the company.
Where is Netflix?
The 2018 runner-up, Netflix, did not appear in this year's ranking. Meanwhile, last year's third-place company, Square, came in 8th place in 2019. You might then wonder: do Brazilian companies have a place in this ranking? Yes.
The most innovative Brazilian companies
Nubank was the only Brazilian company to enter the global ranking by Fast Company. The fintech appears in 36th place out of the 50 spots on the list. This was a significant improvement: the previous year, it was mentioned only among the most innovative companies in Latin America, in 3rd place.
Brazil appears even more frequently in the Latin America ranking. Half of the 10 startups mentioned are Brazilian — with Nubank and Grow (merger of Yellow and Grin) taking the top two spots.
In addition to these, Magazine Luiza, Movile, and PagSeguro were also mentioned among the most innovative companies in Latin America. Last year, the proportion of Brazilian companies was the same (half of the ranking), but other companies were listed.
