The 7 Main HR Challenges for 2020

HR has always been an important department within companies.

But now, with shifting human behavior, the introduction of new technologies, and the emergence of new professions, its role becomes even more relevant.

Skills are becoming more valuable than degrees. Young professionals work more for purpose than for money. Professionals are constantly seeking new challenges. Technologies are eliminating jobs while creating new roles.

This is the landscape of the new HR, and these should be the 7 main trends in the sector for the coming year:

1 – People Analytics: artificial intelligence will definitively become part of the department's day-to-day operations. The use of systems to collect, process, and cross-reference data will enable a better understanding of each employee, assess their performance, establish benchmarks, and plan interventions to improve results.

2 – Mobile HR and Flexibility: remote work and home office arrangements have been discussed for some time, but we have never had so many tools to support project management and remote team monitoring. People will have increasing freedom to find the best way to deliver productivity, but companies will need to be prepared to oversee all of this.

3 – Gamification in the Workplace: the new generations now entering the job market are accustomed to gamification in games, social networks, and online platforms. This will undoubtedly become more prevalent in team training and development activities.

4 – HR Management: HR Departments as we know them will cease to exist. Not because they have lost importance, but because they will become so relevant that they will transcend the boundaries of the department itself. HR has already become the heart of the company, which is why management practices in this area will need to be renewed.

5 – Technological Mindset: all companies will be digital. All of them will be data-driven. Therefore, all the people who build these companies need to have a digital mindset. Creating the conditions for these individuals to grow in new technologies will be one of the key challenges for the coming year.

6 – Cultural Transformation: “purpose” is one of the most common words in the minds of young professionals. And purpose is directly connected to culture. Therefore, creating processes that keep company culture aligned with clear purposes will be fundamental to retaining top talent.

7 – On-demand Benefits: offering the same benefits to different people will no longer work. For some, a paid gym membership is great. For others, having fresh fruit available at the office is essential. Another group prefers English lessons. Yet another would appreciate yoga classes. Delivering the right benefits to the right people leads to happier, more engaged employees.

These are the trends for 2020, and all of them are directly tied to HR management. For that reason, it is worth exploring the course Gestão Inovadora para RHs.

Everything we have done up to this point has been valuable, but it does not guarantee future success. Like everything else, HR needs to evolve.
