Bitcoin divides opinions among major investors. But a 20-year-old proved that it is possible to find success with this type of investment.
You may have never heard of Erik Finman, a 20-year-old who became a millionaire by investing in Bitcoin. In 2011, at the age of 12, he invested the equivalent of $1,000 in the cryptocurrency — when each coin was worth between $10 and $12.
Today, that amount has grown to 446 bitcoins, equivalent to no less than $4.5 million — which, according to him, makes him the youngest person to become a millionaire through this type of investment. The first time the young man heard about cryptocurrency was from a hippie during a street protest. The venture struck him as promising.
Following that encounter, Erik devoted his days to school and trading Bitcoin. At 15, he sold $100,000 worth of Bitcoin, founded an education startup, and dropped out of high school. The boy, who was clearly not a fan of traditional education, made a bet with his parents: if he became a millionaire before the age of 18, he would not have to attend college.
True to his word, he sold the startup for 300 bitcoins and, in 2017, when the unit value surpassed $2,700, he won the bet against his parents. Today, he invests in Bitcoin investment platforms and plans ambitious projects — all after celebrating his 21st birthday in Las Vegas.
