While Amazon keeps planning its next territory to conquer, digital tension grows at Walmart. The two companies are arch-rivals in American retail and compete head-to-head for the best logistics network, delivery times… However, things do not seem to be going very well for Walmart, which reportedly suffered a loss of US$ 1 billion in its online division. It is worth recalling that, in May, Walmart shut down its e-commerce operations in Brazil, claiming that “the results represented a minimal share of the company’s overall performance”.
2- Smart Inventory
In 6 years, the total number of items for sale at Walmart jumped from 700 thousand to 60 million. Behind this leap are the investments the company made in artificial intelligence to manage its systems and inventory. I am a fan of Walmart’s innovation management!
